How to Sell Movies & Manage Inventory
Selling movies in Retro Rewind is something you might not figure out right away, because the game never lets you execute a sale directly at the checkout counter. Don't worry, here is the complete guide to clearing up space and turning a profit on your old VHS tapes.
1. The Clearance Bin Mechanics
The only way to permanently sell a movie in Retro Rewind is by placing it into the Clearance Bin.
- Unlocking: You cannot sell movies from day one. You must level up your store to Level 10 to unlock the Clearance Bin.
- Setup: Purchase it from the equipment catalog on the PC and place it somewhere highly accessible to customers.
- Selling: Simply pick up movies you want to get rid of and drop them into the Clearance Bin. You cannot manually set prices; customers will eventually pick them up and buy them for a fixed price (usually 50% of their market value).
Holographic Clearance: Holographic movies sell for significantly more in the Clearance Bin because the bin calculates 50% of their inherently higher market value.
2. Renting vs. Selling: What should you do?
Understanding the difference between renting and selling separates a struggling business from a Blockbuster empire.
- Renting: Earns steady, compounding income. A great movie rented out 15 times makes far more money than selling it once.
- Selling: Gives a quick, one-time influx of cash. Essential for clearing out inventory clutter so new releases have shelf space.
What should you sell?
- Duplicate copies of unpopular movies.
- Titles with the "Old" tag whose rental fees have naturally permanently dropped by $0.50.
- Low-rated movies that sit completely unrented on your shelves for in-game weeks.
3. Inventory Management Tips & Fixing Mistakes
Managing shelves is critical for both aesthetic appeal and staff efficiency.
- Mixed Shelves: Do "Mixed" genre shelves hurt sales? No. Customers do not care if your shelves are a mess; they will actively seek out the tape. Sorting strictly by genre only helps YOU find tapes faster when customers ask for specific manual recommendations at the counter.
- Fixing "Reserved" Tape Glitches: If a customer storms out due to a late fee, their tape might get stuck on your shelf with the "Reserved" tag forever. The Fix: The next time an NPC asks for a "Recommendation" in that genre, hand them the bugged tape! When they return it, the reservation tag clears automatically. Alternatively, dump the bugged tape into the Clearance Bin to sell it off.
WARNING: The Display Case Trap
Do you proudly display your Holographic movies in the decorative Display Case? Stop immediately! Due to a recurring game bug, customers can and will rent movies straight out of the display cases, and they might break them! Until patched, keep your rare Holo tapes hidden in the back room or on a table where customers cannot route to them.
